bob mitchell 1912-2009
silent film organist
bob mitchell was the last surviving organist from the silent movie. he was also the very first house musician for dodger stadium. he passed away this summer at 96 years old. i was lucky enough to see bob play for many silent films at the silent movie theater on fairfax in hollywood. the man used to bring tears to my eyes. not only was he brilliant, (never looking down once at his organ keeping his eyes fixed on the screen and never missing a beat) but his smile was golden. i would walk up to him and shake his hand after the film just so i could someday say i shook bob mitchell's hand. i swear when i looked into his eyes there were diamonds inside of them.
rest in peace, mr. mitchell.
